A society free of woman violence and discrimination against widows, women, and girls in Cameroon.

Our Mission

To assist widows, women and girls develop themselves and assert their rights through training, advocacy, education, counseling, and conflict resolution. LAW’s mission amongst others is to enhance and promote the welfare of widows, women, and children, promote the principles and aims of the United Nations in their legal and social aspects, promote the aims and principles of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and to advocate for effective implementation of international human rights conventions and treaties that advance the rights of women and girls and the repeal of national Laws that discriminate against women and girls, especially widows in Cameroon.

Our Objectives

The main objectives of LAW are to enlighten traditional rulers and elderly women in the villages against harmful traditional practices carried out on widows and to ameliorate the status of widows, women as well as young girls.

Projects:

LAW Cameroon executed projects with REDHAC ON “THE COMMITMENT OF GIRLS AND WOMEN TO SUSTAINABLE PEACE AND NATIONAL RECONCILIATION IN CENTRAL AFRICA: OUR COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY”

 LAW Cameroon has executed a three years project, as co implementing partner with FIDA Cameroon, funded by the UN Trust Fund aimed at “Making violence against women and girls History in the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon”.  LAW started executing this project in 2020 and it will end in 2022 Under this project, we are increasing knowledge and awareness within communities and strategic stake holders on national and international laws and standards relating to GBV as a human rights abuse by translating such laws into local languages and putting in audio and video; so as to raise awareness on prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.

The team of LAW Cameroon has been busy with their Community and Media awareness raising campaigns to sensitise young girls, women and men in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, on the availability of Legal Aid based on the LAW No 2003/004 of 14th April 2009 on Legal Aid, funded UN Trust Fund.                                     

LAW Cameroon has organized capacity building workshops to train FIDA members on Shadow Reporting.

LAW Cameroon has executed a six months project funded by Urgent Action Fund, aiming at fighting Covid19 Pandemic in the South West Region of Cameroon.  We started executing this project in 2020 and it will end in 2020.  Under this project we were increasing knowledge and awareness within communities on the preventive measures on Covid19 Pandemic

   LAW Cameroon participates weekly on a Radio Buea talk and call in show called (Voices for Women) on pro bono bases. It is the most listened to program on gender equality, during which LAW resource persons educate members of the public on women’s human rights, take legal questions from the public and give legal advice.
