LAW Cameroon is a co implementing Partner with FIDA Cameroon, in a project funded by the United Nations Trust Fund (UNTF), on « Making violence against women and girls history in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon »
The main objectives of LAW are to enlighten traditional rulers and elderly women in the
villages against harmful traditional practices carried out on widows and to ameliorate the
status of widows, women as well as young girls.
A society free of woman violence and discrimination against widows, women and girls in
Cameroon.
To assist widows, women and girls develop themselves and assert their rights through training, advocacy, education, counseling, and conflict resolution. LAW’s mission amongst others is to enhance and promote the welfare of widows, women, and children, promote the principles and aims of the United Nations in their legal and social aspects, promote the aims and principles of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and to advocate for effective implementation of international human rights conventions and treaties that advance the rights of women and girls and the repeal of national Laws that discriminate against women and girls, especially widows in Cameroon.
LAW stands for Libra Association for Widows; it is a non-governmental Organisation (NGO). LAW Cameroon was founded on the 24th of July 2008, and works in the field of human rights, because the death of a husband means stigma, destitution, and abuse for many Cameroonian widows who are some of the world’s poorest widows.
